i've searched on here about these things not working well, and i've seen the rivets blamed, and the door switches blamed.
when i got my montero, the light didn't work. someone had already squeezed the rivets, and the door switches work. when i multimeter the terminals going to the dome light selector switch, there is power where it should be. the only thing that is left then is the actual ceiling switch. i took apart the switch, you know, it has a detent ball and spring that provides the contact between the different points. well, i cleaned the ball, and cleaned the contacts with rc motor spray, and it worked.....for about 3 hours. man does that bulb burn hot!!!
it still gets power to the terminals going to the switch, just like before, but no workey.
what gives with this thing? is there a known problem with the material used for the detent ball and the contacts it hits?

I dont know but if you want to replace it newer Ford escorts look like the have the same light.
Mine works fine. All I have done is change the bulb several years ago.

some guys here on the forum have purchased the LED type lights from ebay and they say it works better and doesnt get hot. yeah, i def would be interested in that. seems like people have really liked that upgrade, but i have to first figure out why the dome light switch is so finicky!
