If your kia is in good tune and you have a good cat the trick to hills in to shift down before you hit the hill or start loosing speed.
When my Kia was new we took a trip with some friends that had a 93 S10 blazer with a 4.3 V6 and an auto. He kept loosing me on hills untill I started shifting down at the bottom. I could out run him on any hill after that. I flew by him in 4th gear on one hill, he said he had in to the floor in 2nd gear when I went past him. Don't be afraid to your the full range or your tach, the engine can handle it.
