Only major difference is the 1979-1985 axles are 3" narrower. Other than that, supposedly is only one little difference, the clearance from the diff to the back of the axle housing. Supposedly you dont have to clearance this area on a V6 housing, but I had to clearance it on my V6 housing. Maybe its only 1990 and newer housings? Either way, its just a very minor detail. 10 minutes of extra work to dent the backside of the housing. They are basically the same.

Ah, thanks for teh clarification. Sounds like it isn't worth any extra effort to find a v6 housing over the more common 4cyl. Good to know.
