This is probably pretty dumb but I need the Spark Plug gap for an AMC 360 V8. I was told by an autozone that it was .035 but the plugs came out between .025-.027 and a google search went as far as recommending .050-.055. Thanks in advance.

97 ZJ, 5" Long Arm Lift, Beadlocked 35's, 231/D300 Doubler, Locked Front & Rear (Narrowed HP D44 & F8.8), ARB Bull Bar & 9K winch, 1-Ton Hydro-assist steering, "Custom" body work and some other goodies... PICS

Factory spark plug gap is 0.035" on my '88 Wagoneer. Your sig mentions a ZJ and a Rodeo... what's the Jeep with the 360?

A gap of .050 sounds like a high-energy thing.

Fred as a general rule .035 gap would be good for a carbed engine.. However it has been found the gap needs to be increased to .045 or better in fuelies.. The reason is the fuelies have such a LEAN mixture that sometimes there isn't enough fuel in a .035 gap to ignite when the spark occurs.
So if it is a carbed engine ONE gap and a fuelie ANOTHER gap!
BUT there is no reason to install a high energy coil into a carbed engine and open the gap..There CANNOT be a gain, ever!! No matter what the armchair mechanics claim...NEVER is there a gain!!

Thanks Berkeley and Big Jim for the help. I figured it would be somewhere around .035 or so but really wanted to be sure being that the old plugs that came out were all gapped between .025 and .027. The AMC 360 is in my girlfriend's CJ7 that she just purchased and I needed to tune it up prior to having it smogged. Thanks again for all the help <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />.
