I mounted mine on the back of the console between the seats - knobs facing up (no back seat in my SWB). I mounted the mike on the drivers' side. I use a mag antenna mount so I can easily remove it myself without sagebrush and low hanging branches doing it for me.

pics are for illustration purposes only. I'm using the exact same setup in my red monty.

As far as your monty being driveable... well it is... just not legally. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I mounted mine on the ceiling just aft of the RVM. The bracket is scarred-up because I took it off for these pics a while back, then reinstalled it:

The |___| bracket you see added here is the stock bracket that came with the CB when I first bought it years ago:

Wires run down the driver-side A-pillar. Note the ID badge lanyard used to keep the mic cable from flopping around. Works quite well and doesn't interfere with the use of the mic:

The antenna is mounted on the rear side of the aft driver-side corner of the vehicle. You can just make it out in the pic below, above the tail-light:

Body Damage is Cool
As for mounting the antenna the top is the best place for it in case of best TX. If you put it on you fender or either side of the bumper it tends to be more directional than if it's mounted on the middle of the top. If you have a bridge-buster the only place would be the rear bumper but if you go with a firestick or one of those shorty's I'd recomend puting it on the top 10" from the rear and in the middle. I't also looks nice like that, I have 2 like that on mine, 10" from the back and side sitting side by side.

Firesticks and I....just don't get along. I just refer to them as firecrackers. My FIL has a body mount whip off his 80'something cop car, that may be the one :-)
