Rim Width for Tire Fitment--How Critical is it? #902615 08/28/08 05:51 AM

I noticed for some tire manufacturers, in this case for the 265/75R16 size, they may specify a rim width range of 7" to 8", where another manufacturer appears to be more exacting at 7.5 inches rim width. So how critical is the rim width for the tire size? I would like to go a 265/75R16 for a slightly reduced diameter (I might be able to use my key in the rear door) but I may be limited on my tire choice because my rims are stock 16X7. That is to say, will the 265/75R16 tire for 7.5" rim work in my 7" wide rim?

Sadly I had to get rid of my 1996 Trooper 3.2L due to a rusted frame.

X2 Your 7" rims will be fine.

Buy a Trooper. You'll be glad you did.
