About 2 years ago my driver side door lock stopped working - it would go in, but wouldn't turn. Can't remember the exact sequence or timing, but very soon after I couldn't even open the door from the inside - what an amazing PITA - the first time I regretted bucket seats. I could not, no way, no how, get that door opened - couldn't even disassemble the door from the inside. Couldn't get the mechanism to work from the top (window rolled all the way down). Spent a week fooling with it until I gave up and went to a mechanic - he had to take out my driver seat through the passenger side (doh!) and took the door to pieces. A plastic piece in the latch had broken and jammed - he said it was actually pretty common. Ugh. If you can still get the door apart, you might consider replacing some of the plastic parts in there...
