less than 50 miles after rebuild, the balance shaft chain breaks sending the montero into the shop for an expensive repair. Can the melling BS eliminator be installed without pulling the motor?
83 mitsu flat bed 2.6l weber, 88 auto tranny, 2" body lift, 4.625 LSD, 235/85-16E mudders (33 x 9.50).

Yes,
What I would look at is how long the motor ran without oil pressure and what went wrong to cause the chain to snap.
Did the same shop rebuild your engine?

rebuild shop is clear across the state.
the engine died from lack of voltage as was learned that the rebuild shop cut the wire from the alternator.
The truck is at a tire store and light mechanical repair.

The balance shaft eliminator is pretty easy to install, and no reason to pull the engine. But! I'd be really worried about what caused the chain to snap that soon after rebuild.
