I need to grease the speedometer cable on my CJ7. It's not very old (less than 200 miles), but I forgot to grease it when I recently replaced it. I don't want to buy another batch of grease. I have the following greases available in my garage:

1. Chassis grease
2. Wheel bearing grease
3. Lubri-Plate (white lithium grease)
4. Dielectric grease
5. Vasoline patroleum jelly

Which would you use?

1977 CJ-7, fiberglass body, AMC 360 w/ headers, DUI ignition, Edelbrock intake and Holley 4150 carb, TF999, Dana 300, 4.56 gears lockers, York air comp, 4" susp lift, 2" body lift, BFG 35" M-T tires, Megashifter, AGR pump & box, REP8000 winch.

Bob it prolly has all the grease in it that will be needed but If you just MUST take it apart I'd be for looking at what is in there already and copying it..

I've used bearing grease on all sorts of cables and never heard another peep outta them. I'm sure white lithium would do fine too.

White lithium grease should not be used on speedo cables, because it will attack the fabric core of the cable. Heavy wheel bearing grease might cause problems, if you live where it get's c...ccc..cold......Vasoline should work fine .....be cool...Mike

Thanks for the suggestions, guys.

BTW, it didn' have lube on the inner cable when I got it. I made a mental note to grease it before I installed it, but then somebody stole the note!
