Sunday, I was in a wreck in which the other driver was cited and the ins co will most likely total it. KBB.com only goes back to 88, and even then lists a 2-door troop at $375. Are there any other sources for a realistic value of a daily driver??

As much as it is a shame, an 86 Trooper is probably worth $0 and whatever it will bring at the current price of scrap. Worse, it might actually be worth negative dollars as you might have to pay someone to haul it off. So, in the end, of course they are going to total it. The cost of having a body shop just touch it is going to exceed its value.

I know such reality is painful, but it is a 22 year old vehicle that never held its value to start with. If you want to fight their totaling of it, the best you can do is scour (and it will require serious scouring) the want ads and other used car listings for other vehicles like it and present those to your company as comparable values for yours. It won't be easy.

Good Luck,
Michael

You'd be surprised what it's worth.

The high prices of metal has helped to fuel a 72% fall in the number of abandoned vehicles reported across England between 2003 and 2007, ...

More info and reports on the drop in abandoned vehicles due to higher scrap metal prices located here (google news)

Here, the going rate is $3.50 per hundred Lbs. You can make more if you remove the cat converter beforehand and recycle that at the metals yard.
For now, Allstate has rented me a 2008 Dodge quad-cab to drive. Nice, except for fuel consumption...

So, is this a diesel Trooper?
Is the running gear still working?
May be interested in buying it for parts if they are still working. Especially the engine and tranny.
