don't know when emissions test last done but will do..think the convertor is original. Going to attempt to contact dealership in FL that rebuilt the engine after fire..maybe they still have records of what was replaced.. tks again.

this problem doesn't seem to happen when on the highway. We do feel a slight hesitate (ever so slight) when under way on local roads. When engine is under strain and now whenever we put it in 4w/d it is much more obvious.

It's just a suggestion, but if it will save your truck, I say just ship the lobsters straight to my house and quit wearing out your truck. Once they get to my place, I will take it from there.

the lobsters go from the boat to the dealer on the dock Richard. It's the empty lobster traps that get hauled around. Come to Maine and we'll feed you all you can eat!

Appreciate the offer, but...been there, done that. Taught some classes in Bangor and Portland on a contract job for Sears a few years back. Absolutely beautiful up there, but too cool for my taste. Our idea of fresh lobster here is that it isn't more than a week off the boat. Good luck with your truck and hang in there. They are worth every PITA moment. I have 241K miles and enjoy every weekend that I spend underneath it trying to make it to the next weekend.

<<PHILLY, I think you were on to something when you thought the problem might have been my TPS.>> Where in Cape Cod?
A new look at an old (older) problem. When I reported trouble with our 94 Toyota 4WD truck w/22RE engine I spoke of rough idle and loss of power. We replaced the fuel filter, engine coolant temp sensor and did all the various visuals looking for moisture, poor connections, etc... Today I want to set the record straight with new (old) information regarding the problem in hopes that the process will help others. When we first purchased this truck used, my son noticed an occasional drop in the rpmÆs when at a stop light and/or in the door yard. It wasnÆt much, maybe a couple hundred rpms. Just enough so you could notice but not enough to make the engine run rough. He now tells me that he was able to feel this subtle reduction in rpms (loss of power) while underway but again it was very minor and he paid no attention but now believes that the current serious problem with rough idle and loss of power is a continuation of that original problem and it makes sense to me. A teenager on the forum from Cape Cod suggested the Throttle Position Sensor but that went over my head when another helpful member (Richard) suggested that this didnÆt make sense when it occurred on the road (rough idle) and standing still. Again our explanation was insufficient...it wasnÆt a rough idle on the road, it was a loss of power or better still a reduction in rpms which caused rough idle/running. To make a long story short, we are going to take a serious look at the TPS circuit and report back to you. You have all been very kind in your efforts to help us and this truck is certainly to be cherished. In Maine when you have a vehicle with no rust no matter how old, itÆs a new vehicle to us! Any more input with this new (old) information? TIA

lol i am not a teen! i am 21!
anyways. i had the same problems as you. easiest thing to do to check your TPS is try putting the truck into timing mode. by putting a jumper in the diagonists port, (look it up) when the jumper is in you should notice a drop in idle, if u dont notice anything. then replace the tps or test it with an ohm meter. follow the steps in the repair guide, or roger browns site. goodluck

also.. it may not be firing on all cylinders. look into that. that would make it run like *****

tks again for your help. sorry about the teenager remark. it was only meant to brag you up. listen my son doesn't have the experience as you and he lives on an island off the coast of maine...so getting to the dealership and giving up your only means of transport is a big deal (and expensive) and the problem still doesn't happen all the time making the whole trip a gamble (to say nothing of the cost of a rental to use in his business while the dealership waits for the problem to happen.
for $100 he can have a TPS shipped to him and if it is simply taking the two bolts off to remove the TPS and replacing it with a new one, i think he can do it. using an ohmmeter to check resistance between terminals is something else. does it make sense for him to replace the TPS himself and if that makes no difference, arrange to get the truck to the dealership? what are the things that might go wrong with the replacement of the TPS? tks again for your time. r u on the lower cape?
