<<PHILLY, I think you were on to something when you thought the problem might have been my TPS.>> Where in Cape Cod?
A new look at an old (older) problem. When I reported trouble with our 94 Toyota 4WD truck w/22RE engine I spoke of rough idle and loss of power. We replaced the fuel filter, engine coolant temp sensor and did all the various visuals looking for moisture, poor connections, etc... Today I want to set the record straight with new (old) information regarding the problem in hopes that the process will help others. When we first purchased this truck used, my son noticed an occasional drop in the rpmÆs when at a stop light and/or in the door yard. It wasnÆt much, maybe a couple hundred rpms. Just enough so you could notice but not enough to make the engine run rough. He now tells me that he was able to feel this subtle reduction in rpms (loss of power) while underway but again it was very minor and he paid no attention but now believes that the current serious problem with rough idle and loss of power is a continuation of that original problem and it makes sense to me. A teenager on the forum from Cape Cod suggested the Throttle Position Sensor but that went over my head when another helpful member (Richard) suggested that this didnÆt make sense when it occurred on the road (rough idle) and standing still. Again our explanation was insufficient...it wasnÆt a rough idle on the road, it was a loss of power or better still a reduction in rpms which caused rough idle/running.
To make a long story short, we are going to take a serious look at the TPS circuit and report back to you. You have all been very kind in your efforts to help us and this truck is certainly to be cherished. In Maine when you have a vehicle with no rust no matter how old, itÆs a new vehicle to us!
Any more input with this new (old) information? TIA
