He also needs to make sure his coolant is topped off. The 22RE is rather funny about that; makes the temp sensor go wonky. Just an oddity that pops up once in awhile. If he's on an island, then he's probably not blowing the carbon out of the thing either.

Plugged EGR will do that too.

he did have a slight coolant leak that he says got corrected with addition of some additive to radiator. he tells me he does run it hard in lower gears once in a while to burn carbon off. yesterday we ordered the TPS, throttle body gasket and new hex bolts (original phillips on it now) and plans to have island mechanic install it for him even if the engine does not act up while in the shop. our approach is to replace inexpensive sensors leading up to the mass air sensor. i'll keep you informed of our progress. tks for your help.

I realize you are getting a bit frustrated, but replacing parts that haven't been tested & shown to be bad is just wasting time & money. Evey sensor on your truck has a test procedure to determine if it is good or bad. The computer on your truck *usually* knows which sensors aren't working properly (there are exceptions, of course).

I didn't see anywhere in your posts that you pulled the error codes from your computer? Have you? If not start there. You could easily blow a thousand dollars & still not fix the problem if you continue to replace sensors that are not verified as bad.

Troubleshooting vehicle problems these days requires a lot more technology than it used to. The days of replacing parts in the hopes that it will fix the problem are long gone.

With modern vehicles, start by puling codes & only then go on to test sending units. Only replace sending units that test bad. otherwise you're just burning money.
