I have a question to insert here... Does the female even KNOW what a fishtale is? Could it be worn front end parts that are causing UNUSUAL steering in certain situations?? The fishtale problem is truly UNUSUAL.. However front ends wear is common..

My folks have had many Grand Cherokees, including their current '05 and '07 models. I've driven them all, and they are *very* solid on the road, dry, wet, snow, anything.

Those mechanics are wrong... if her Jeep is "fishtailing" there's something wrong. That's not normal no matter what's in the diff. The diff, tires, road... something is broken. What tires are on it?

If you're willing to help, take a drive with her. Preferably on the same roads she travels... see if you can find exactly where it happened. Oil, sand on the road?

thanks everyone for the help. Big Jim, I was starting to wonder if 'fishtail' was correct. She said it acts like it's on ice or rain and the rear goes sideways. but on dry.
I may ask to go for a ride. I'm wondering if the thing is in 4wd. My wrangler makes that wacky movement when you make a turn on dry roads in 4wd. Not that it is something I do often. I'll be back......

I feel I have worn my welcome out here. So I will be moving on.

My Laredo has went threw two of those will I mention, speed sensors. The sensor that made my vehicle want to do some real wild gear changes. No matter where I was.

No I am not a mechanic but I do have a Laredo with a speed sensor eating problem.
I guess my experiences is no longer needed here. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shame.gif" alt="" />
I am sure you guys will figure it out. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Reepersteve, what makes you think you wore out your welcome??? I'm no mechanic, just confused. its very difficult to shoot a third party's problem, especially when I'm getting the info to you guys when I happen to see her. plus she really dosent know any specs - its just a car to her. I value all opinions here and thats how we might come up with the best clue to the problem. The dealer didnt care.

Should be no fishtail at all, depending on what 4x4 system she has, not to mention that 2005-present WKs have a ESP system. There should be none of that if she as the ESP turned on.

Maybe I should have given a little background! I have a 2004 WJ with Quadra-drive....this system uses Vari-Lok Axles, for the WK they went to Limited Slip Axles so the response time of Quadra-Drive to decrease. While I have no form of ESP or traction control system on my Jeep, it used to always break the rear loose. Without her ESP engaged, Quadra-drive will have some tire spin that could cause a fishtail, however it will always right itself. Now if she as Quadra-Trac then that is a different story there is no power transfer with that system, if you spin the ESP should catch this.
