Hey all. I have an '89 Trooper w/ the 2.6. Hasn't ran more than 15 seconds at a time for over 2 years! I replaced almost everything under the hood...elec. parts, all vac. hoses, fuel lines, etc. Can one or more fuel injectors malfunction and flood the motor after idling for about 15 secs.? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Two questions -
Are you sure that it is flooding, and
Are you sure of the amount of time?
The reason I asked is that if the fuel pump relay is bad, the engine will start (the relay is by-passed during start) and then the engine will stop, but usually after about 5 seconds.

A disconnected or non-functioning MAF sensor will produce those symptoms.
Buy a Trooper. You'll be glad you did.

Thanks guys. Yes on the time thing. 10-15 sec. after starting, it all goes to he11. There is a lot of gas down in the oil pan and if I let it continue to idle, everything starts to smoke. The MAF is new and connected. Relays are new. The engine will continue to idle, but very eratic. If I try to give it gas, it usually stumbles and dies. Gotta let it sit for a while before starting again. Oh, I did a diagnostic and the fuel inj. code came up on the dash.

Which code specifically?
How is the compression? You are draining the gas out of the oil pan aren't you?
Are the injectors leaking with the engine off? Hook a pressure gauge up and see how fast pressure drops off after it has run and dies.
Do a continuity test on each injector. Should be in the 10-17 ohm range generally.

I had the same problem and it was caused by a disconected temperature sensor under the intake manifold, the one used by the computer not the gauge one. Maybe you want to check that if you havent fix it yet. junior

That's a good thought juniorjs.
I know of more than one individual on the planet who accidentally switched the Aux Air Reg. connector and the ECM temp sensor connectors and had similar problems. I can't remember the colors of the connectors, but I'm sure someone here knows them offhand.
