Getting the Wheeling Fever
I am an avid hunter and take my SUV off road a good bit. I've always used Mitsubishi Montero's and have had very good luck with them. Problem is....They've made cars out of them so I've been eyeballing the Tundra. My question is, if I get a crew cab 4X4 and want to tow a couple of quads once or twice a year, which engine.
Now I know they have both 4.7 & 5.7 V-8's. What can I expect in Mileage? Mostly when I'm not towing. Can someone give me some insight?
Bill

Check out fueleconomy.gov for EPA figures and possibly end user's mileage reports.

Honestly I dont think one would need the 5.7 to tow little quads.

I tow a dump trailer weighing > 4000lbs with a supercharged 3.4L.

If all you're doing is hauling quads several times a year, I'd say go with the smaller engine--especially if there's a significant difference in fuel economy.

Body Damage is Cool
The 5.7 gets slightly better gas mileage than the weaker 4.7.

More power and better mileage. I'd be most inclined to go with the 5.7.

Doesn't the 5.7 also come with a 6 speed auto? I am not sure if that is available in the 4.7 and that would make a big difference, especially on the highway.

Need a Spot
The 5.7 comes with the new 6spd auto trans.

The 4.7 comes with the proven 05+ 5spd transmission.

The 5.7 has some serious balls, even in a 4x4 CrewMax Ltd. It'll run with 6.0s like nothing.

With the towing package, the 5.7L has 4.30s and the 4.7 has 4.10s. It should be the other way around but I guess Toyota didn't ask me now did they?

I thought it was the same Aisin 6 speed they have been putting in the Dodge diesels now. Might have been misinformed. The design is supposed to be based on the Allison xmissions. Of course, this was a Dodge guy told me this.
