What a mess, 25 dead and 40 in critical. The are blaming the sub-contractor engineer for not stopping at the signal

Engineer of commuter allegedly ignored/missed signal.

There are trains heading towards each other hundreds of times a day. Its just that all the good engineers don't miss signals.

So your life depends on a ONE Engineer paying attention?

Where is the co-engineer in case the Engineer croaks or whatnot?

Conductor is there too, but I don't know what the deal is with passenger rail.

We've got in cab signals in some territories, and I think if the signal is not acknowledged, the train goes into an emergency stop.

All the Class Is are working on OTC or optimized train control, which will use GPS technology to prevent these kinds of errors.

But then again , passenger rail is a federally regulated endeavor.

Looks like the Texting while Train driving is becoming the lead theory.

Metrolink spokeswoman just resigned. She forgot the golden rule "never ever accept responsibility"

The lawyers are drooling

That's strange. I highly doubt she just arbritarily said it was their fault without higher ups telling her too.

My guess is she is the scapegoat. But she also made a few other comments along the way, off the cuff, that weren't really appropriate so it might be that.

Metrolink is owned by France, so some uppidy up in frogland probably had a cow when they heard that their subsidiary said it was their fault. Then the big cheese here in the states probably said...what? I didn't authorize anything to be said...fire that woman!
