Yes, I should have been saying shift rod. Also make sure you have the correct # of teeth on the terra gear. There was a change made when they went to the fixed output. It is the teeth that the shift ring slides on to. Make sure the terra gear teeth match the teeth on your output gear"the one that stays in the back half of the t-case cover". I did convert one early slip yolk over to a fixed output by using an auto t-case back half. I used a terra kit for the auto tranny. It worked out pretty good, too late I know for you, but I think it is well worth the extra work to go with the fixed out put.
1987 trooper LS.'94 3.2, SAS,35's , lots of dents and rust. Now, improved, with more dents. 1995 trooper LS. Wife won't let me improve this one. 1996 trooper. I'll need something to modify when the '87 finally rusts away.

Make sure the terra gear teeth match the teeth on your output gear"the one that stays in the back half of the t-case cover". The gear appears to be the correct one. The number of teeth match (23) and the outside diameter mic's out to be the same.

I really don't know where to start.
Take the transmission back out.
Either you have the wrong rail (I know, I know, we talked about this, but it is still possible).
or you dropped one of the detent balls into the great abysss and the shift rail cannot move all the way forward.
Good luck, michael Winner! Winner! I finally got back to the project today and indeed font a detent ball in the bottom on the shifter rail abyss. Of course, I managed to break the clutch hub for the front output in the process, so I will be calling St. Charles in the morning.

Getting a little impatient with the puller, Jim? Heh, I should talk...came damn close to breaking some stuff when I did my gears when I didn't notice that parts were binding as I was cranking on the puller

just to clarify...ALL of the MUA5's and Pre-1998 autos use the same rail - All Are our rail designated TL307-4
the 98+ Auto in the Amigo/Passport/Rodeo/Rodeo Sport platform is the different rail. this is a close detent rail

Thanks, Matt. I am living in the past. But, it was the only other thing (besides the detent ball) I could come up with that would prevent the shift fork from going forward, as described by Jim. It was the exact same presentation of the initial "rail debacle" of way back when.
