I bought a Montero 2d (5speed) this summer and had the motor rebuilt with a no-jet head and installed it in my rig. I like the rig. I needed a few extra parts so I bought a motor-less 89 Raider with all the bells and whistles. Questions: 1) My montero has a Weber carb. Will it pass emmisions in Seattle (king County)? If not, any tricks/ tips? 2 Does anyone have a good photo of the required vacuum lines when using a weber? Mine are a mess. 3) My Montero does not have a limited slip rear end, should I swap the limited slip off the Raider? (raider has 135k). 4) I pulled the a/c components of the Raider, trying to decide if it is worth the trouble. Does A/C work well on these vehicles? I am in the N/W, not too hot here. 5) The truck came with a header that was not installed. performance gains using it?

Congrats on your purchase, they are well built trucks. About your questions 1. No it will not pass. Purchase a Mikuni at www.fcproducts.com2. Yes ! http://www3.telus.net/public/dhuysman/vachose1.htmlotherwise just find another running 2.6 and look under the hood. Sometimes that is the best way. 3. Depends on how you wheel, if your going rock crawling go strait to a ARB locker. 4. AC works great, bolt it back in, do a 134A conversion and your done ! 5. Header may or may not be smog legal, There are two 2.6 performance gains worth doing. 1. TURBO 2. 5.29 Gears if you have 31 size tires or up. Pictures of your truck ? We call 2 door trucks "SWB" for Short Wheel Base. The really have three doors Any Montero with that is not SWB is called a "limo"

Thanks LRJ4x4, -I was hopeing for the vacuum routing photos for a weber. -There are a few around Seattle running webers and I thought there was a trick. We don't have inspections we just have to get our tail pipe sniffed. -I am not really going to do rock crawling, just moderate jeep trails and snow driving. (Naches Pass) Is the limited slip worth the trouble to swap from the Raider? -I do have a budget cap on this truck that I am very near. A new carb without a core may throw me over the edge.

I've driven mine just about everywhere with a open diff, easy to moderate off-roading with a couple of excepts where Carlos tried to kill me
I could be wrong about the carb, ask around but there in no way the weber will pass a visual. The Mikuni is the better carb when functioning. Rebuilt runs around $300

-The emmisions testing stations do not pop the hood in our area. -If you had a spare truck that you were going to take to junk yard and it had a limited slip would you go to the trouble to swap it out?

Hate to be the only one on the other side of the coin, but I will take a Weber over a Mikuni any day. This is coming from running my silver truck with the mikuni, and my red truck with the weber on and off-road in many conditions. The truck with the weber gets better MPG, stays running better on inclines, and better top speed. But that again thats just my .02 .

He wants pics for the Weber... Do a search on this forum. IIRC, the Weber needs like two of the dozen the Mikuni has. It has been discussed in the past.
Don't send the parts truck to the yard with the LSD in it. At least pull it and decide later. This assumes it is a 4-cyl of course.

Definitely. All pre-89 (88?) were. From what I've seen, 89s are more often V6.
