I was watching another thread from Zukwalker. I had the same problem as him with the hesitation. I didn't see what he did to fix it.

When you mash the gas pedal and hold it down it just sputters a little like its getting no gas.

Does anyone know what he did to fix the problem ?

I changed the dist Cap / rotor, cleaned the Idle sensor,

I can't afford to start throwing C notes at it , I was hoping someone had the right fix ?

thanks
Phillip

You got the wires back on correctly? How'd you clean the "Idol sensor". And exactly what part are you referring too?

How long has this been going on? How long have you had the truck?

I'll be in Milledgeville at River Rock on October 10-12th. If you haven't figured it out by then, PM me and I'll get directions and come fix it for you.

I cleaned the Idol air control IAC, on the front bottom right of the throttle body. It was smutted up pretty good, cleaned it off with a clean rag and a dab of carb cleaner per the instructions I found on this site.

I put the wires on the new cap as I took the off one by one from the old cap.

When I fired it up it made no diffrence at all.
It runs great at idol, and barely pushing the pedal down it rev's up. But if you push the pedal all the way down at once and hold it down it has like a pulsing like the gas is coming in spurts.

I just got the truck from an old guy this week. It had been sitting for awhile. He had replaced the fuel pump and filter. I drove it home, but it wasn't a fast ride. I could barely hit the gas. As long as I barely pushed the pedal it would go.

If I could get it going I was either going to river rock or Durhamtown plantations new 4x4 trails and see what else I could break on it.

YOu can email me back at pmccook1@windstream.net

thanks Phillip

Try replacing the fuel filter. If it's been sitting and has had ethanol in it, it could really be gunked up.

Possible ECU problem.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

Possible ECU problem.

Maybe - also possible that the "old guy" put the plug wires on wrong, too - or didn't correctly set the ignition timing.

Sparky's ECU diag is possible, but I'd try the simple stuff first. To set a baseline. Do as Frank suggests. Replace the fuel filter with a good filter (WIX or OE) and make sure the wires are on correctly. Did you replace the plugs? If not, now would be a good time. I suggest NGK or Denso's. Then check timing. Our trucks DO NOT like cheap parts. Spend the little extra and give it the good stuff and you will be rewarded.

For FSM's go to www.mitsubishilinks.com and D/L what you need.

Good luck <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

HOw do you fix a ECU problem ? the pump and filter were replaced before I bought it.

You can rev it up to 4K +,,, and it sounds smooth.

It just does the surge thing when you press the pedal past 1/4 throttle and hold it.

thanks Phillip

1) You don't know how long before.... don't say what brand - or if it's correctly installed.
2) You don't know what's been in the tank - again, any ethanol fuel will loosen old gasoline deposits and clog a new filter in a real hurry.... and the better the filter quality, the faster it will clog.

Your injectors may be clogged - or any number of other things.... fuel pressure regulator, ECU, distributor, etc. Start with the basics.

On the TPS, the wires on mine point toward the passenger fender. The TPS at all the parts stores that they look up the wiring harness points toward the firewall.

Where can I order the one that points toward the passenger fender ? The wiring harness thats on the truck would not have enough wire to plug into one that points toward the firewall.

What would be the diffenrence in those 2 ?

thanks phillip
