Need a Spot
Hello all,
97 T100 3.4 l V6 5spd 4WD

Need to replace entire exhaust after catalytic converter.

I am looking into 2 choices now:
1) Toyota one peace replacement part# 17430-62220
for about $205.00 in house (partznet.com)
2) Gibson sweptside single cat-back
for about $300.00 (not sure about shipping yet)

(link below should show you an example for Gibson)
http://www.jcwhitney.com/Toyota-T100-Performance-Exhaust-Systems/200729293-600015738.jcw

Gibson is advertised as heavy-duty aluminized steel for long use and also as improving performance.
IÆm not sure about how easy to mount.
Anybody out there used Gibson, please?

I do not worry about extra $100.00.
I was told that Toyota replacement is good for at least 5 years and very easy to install.
And my preference is with it at this moment.

But, IÆd really like to get better performance if itÆs true.
IÆm not that much after better sound, but I would not complain if its there.

Any comments appreciated!

Thanks

I'm lookin for an exhaust for mine also. i've found one from Doug thorley. It mounts in the stock location, so it's pretty easy to install. I had a doug thorley exhaust on my old '90 pickup. i was really happy with it.

here's the site for it.

EDIT-just found it cheaper!

Thanks for your input guys

277000_yota you liked Doug thorley on your old pickup.
Can you say more? I don't care about look that much (how much of it others can see anyway).
And from what I can read this set is loud enough to make you crank up your stereo in the cabin.
Don't like that! Nice deep sound yes! Loud NO!

What about performance gain? That's what important to me.
Was your set mountable without extra cutting or welding?

Anybody ON GIBSON?????

Thanks

I put the exhaust on about 2 years ago. it was holding up just fine. when i put it on, i was running a stock catalyitic converter and stock manifolds. when i put the headers and hi flow on, i did have to turn up the stereo a bit if i had the window down. other than that, it wasn't that loud. i really liked how easy it was to install, and like i said, mine was still in good condition, even with 25,000 miles on it. i was thinking about pulling it off of my white truck and scavenging parts from it to make a custom exhaust for the new t-100, but i think im just going to buy a kit because of the fact that i'm a little to lazy right now lol <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

SUMMARY of what I did. It may be useful for somebody else in a similar situation.

I looked at Doug Thorley suggested by 277000_yota and see it as too noisy.
My son paid quite a few tickets for having something similar on his car.
It looks like this is just a pipe, no muffler on it.

I looked at Gibson. I spoke to Gibson people.
They say their product is Dyno tested for each car its build. They guarantee performance gain on low rpm.
Reading between the lines I doubt that is the case without installing their headers also.
However, their product looks good and it is relatively inexpensive.
I believe this one is worth considering.

There are two part numbers available (for Gibson Swept Side Exhaust; there are other types) for MY T100:
Gibson part# 18806 aluminized; expected life about 3 to 4 years (in Mass) - cost $312.00 + ship;
Gibson part# 618806 stainless steel - lifetime, cost about ; $430.00
I have red many good customer opinions on this product; very view not too good; mostly due to installation issues.
I WAS READY TO GET SS 618806 BUT I was told I'd have to WAIT at least 2 weeks.
None of the places a called have them in stock. It looks like most of Gibson products are made to order.

Unfortunately for me I could not wait to weeks.
So, I decided to go with the Toyota stock; expected live 4 - 5 years.
I ordered Toyota part# 17430-62220 from partznet.com (Conicelli Parts Center in Pennsylvania) for $190.36 plus $16.73 shipping. Its about $55.00 savings compare to local dealers.
Guess what. Next day Conicelli emailed order cancellation stating that it is to difficult to ship (costly). Same story went with everybody else.

So, wanted or not, I had to talk to local dealership.
I ordered my parts: (usually for next day delivery)
17430-62220 pipe assy, exhaust
90917-06057 gasket, exhaust pipe ($11.57 donut gasket, not chip but its a must)
90105-10388 bolt, washer based 2ea

I'm about to pay when the sales rep says: By the way there is a lifetime warranty if installed by us.
So, I stopped my order talked to the service advisor and placed a repair order.
Repair order calls for 1-hour labor on this project, about $95.00 in this particular place.
They agreed to lower my time since old exhaust was already removed.
My parts arrived next day and the job was performed without any problems.

My total is $327.60. Labor part 43.50.
AND HARD TO BELIEVE:
My service advisor STATED few times:
ôLife time warranty is for PARTS AND LABOR; as long as I have original receipt.ö
IN translation, I understand that as long as I own this truck I get new exhaust from ANY Toyota dealer in USA. For NO or very few bucks.

I wonder how many times I will use this receipt??
If that is the case this looks like really good deal for additional about $45.00.

The highlight of my day at the dealership:
I was leaving when some old lady started yelling:
"YOU SHMUCKS! 70 BUCKS FOR OIL CHANGE!!??"

I was laughing all the way back home.
O well, the owners have to pay for multimillion dollars new, European style building, somehow.

Thanks

Read what the warranty actually says. I'm sure the warranty is simply against manufacturing defects and/or installation error. I seriously doubt they're going to give you a brand new exhaust when (not if) it eventually wears out... which it seems like you are implying?

I see the same offer of lifetime warranty in the quarterly fliers the dealer sends us. I never did look at the fine print to see what exceptions exist. It is across the board on all Toyota vehicles per the ads.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Unless Toyota has changed their policy MRT100 should be OK.Years ago I had a Tercel with an exhaust that was replaced by the dealer. After that one rusted out, I called and had them replace the exhaust. When I called I told the service guy that it should be a warranty replacement. When I picked up the car they still gave me a $200+ bill. I then showed the service guy my old receipt. Nothing else was said parts and labor were covered.

Last year I replaced my catback Jardine with an OEM for my T. I called around to three stealerships in my area and picked one up for $115.00.

Great heads up on the warranty!!!

My exhaust was shipped cross country by FedEx from 1sttoyotaparts. They just taped a shipping label to the pipe. Came home one day and it was on my porch! Looked kind of ghetto but I checked it over and it was not dinged or dented.
