Need a Spot
2002 Tacoma (4cyl) 2.7 engine. I need power when I'm coming out from a complete stop, expecially when I'm pulling the boat. !Help.

The stock ignition system in these trucks is top notch and I believe money spent trying to upgrade it is money wasted.

I almost "invested" in an MSD unit for my 3.4L, but decided against it. Everybody told me exactly what John just told you: the ignition systems are pretty stout. MSD is usually just wasted money.

As for more torque/hp for pulling the boat, I personally don't know of too many mods you can do to boost the power w/o dropping a bunch of cash on a turbo or supercharger. I think a lot of guys report some success with intake modifications, though. Search around and you'll find TONS of info here.
And it wouldn't hurt to give your whole intake and ignition system a good cleaning (i.e. clean the mass airflow sensor, replace the plugs, check plug wires, clean the throttle body, etc.). A lot of times, those little things can make the truck run like crap and you won't even know it.

[EDIT: Here's how to clean that throttle body]

You're probably going to want to get the trd/alpine supercharger. LC Engineering sells them now....

Wont the TRD decals give you more power alone?

Haha yea, I took mine off when I did some body work, and the truck lost 25 horsepower! The turd stickers -- I mean, TRD stickers -- are a must.

How about spark plugs for the 2.7 liter, which should give more power, platinum???

Platinums tend to run a little hot. I stick with either OEM or NGK's myself. My 22Rx's sure don't like platinums.

The 2.7 has the same HP as the older 3.0 at 150hp. Are you running bigger tires by chance?

You can send me your MSD moola- time for Blizzaks up here.
