The other day I had my left rear axle out so i could take it to a machine shop and have a new bearing pressed in. While I had it out I shot some extra gear oil in the end of the axle tube. I have not driven or moved my Raider since. Now I notice that gear oil is on the ground and it looks like it is leaking from the center of the axle. I have not climbed under to see where but I think it is from the pinion seal.
My question is can the axle gear oil leak out just simply from being over filled? I really doubt it can I am just hoping because I do not want to put in a new seal. If I do need a new seal is there a way to change it without having to change the crush washer and pull the pinion out?

Can you tell exactly where it is leaking from? Perhaps the pinion seal, 3rd member flange, or ???
I'd try to clean the area well and see where it's coming from.

Haven't done a rear, but when I did the front, you could get the seal off from the pinion with the flange off.

I had a leak from the skinny large O-ring somewhere near the bearing. It leaked from wear/age , not disassembly. It leaked out of the small hole in the flange and after 8 years is starting again.I paid to have it fixed so that is all I can tell ya..

Pinion seal. Not sure if you can get it off without messing up the depth. I also think you have to have to torque set back to where it was originally. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

My pinion seal leaked. Had to get it from the dealer, couldn't get one aftermarket. When you remove the pinion flange nut mark the shaft and the nut Rotate the pinion by hand or with a small dial or bar torque wrench to get an idea of the torque required to turn it. Change the seal, and when you reinstall the pinion flange tighten the nut until the mark on the nut is just past the mark on the shaft. Turn the pinion again and make sure that the rotational torque is about the same as when you started. As long as it's about the same you should be good.
