You can get those absorbant packs based on the amount by weight that you are packaging. I toss one in stuff that I dry and then vacuum pack them shut.

www.foodsaver.com No one who harvests/raises their own meat/fish should be without one.

Curtis have you done any Mylar packing? If so did you vacuum or just throw in the O2 absorbents? Can you overkill on absorbents? Do absorbents create a vacuum - some places seem to say they do.

Yes. I pack all my food in 1 gallon Mylar bags. I use O2 absorbers in them. You CAN overkill though it'd be difficult. If you put too much absorbent in there, it will pull too hard of a vacuum, and the Mylar will tear.

I use exactly what the tutorials say to use.
I buy my stuff from Frugal Squirrels.

I personally use a bigass cutting board set I have, and I stack them up to work the best for me. I get EVERYTHING portioned out into bags, THEN get the iron heated up, and everything ready to go. THEN I open up the O2 absorbers, and plop them into the bags... shuffle them down into the product, and seal 90% of the seam... Then after it cools down enough to touch my lips to, pull a vacuum on it as best I can, and then totally seal it.

Rice is SO cheap people!!!

You tore that Mylar? Wow. I use an old sucker gun with a food grade tube on those.

Add a hand powered meat grinder to your list. Your teeth will go, and you'll need to eat mush.

Take a look at Bradford Angier and Dean Ing. Angier is all things to survive in the woods, and Ing tells you how to avoid a nuke strike, stuff like how to make an air pump to pull air thru the TP air filter system.

Just bought a dehydrator and am making some jerky as we speak. Along with our vacum sealer we are set to make our own MREs.

The cheap simple set up.
[Linked Image]

A broth cube vacuum sealed with some dried meat, various vegetables with some rice or past will be a yummy treat when others are waiting 12 hours in a federal bread ration line.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> I remember as a kid drying venison on our rooftop. I'm so domesticated now....

Prep on! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" />

Edit> Another good preperation website. Web page

Select fire? or Semi Auto?

Cool gun, but not really practical for SHTF.

Get your cwp, and a good inside the wasteband holster. IE Comp Tac Minotaur.

Finally got some podcasts on my phone. Wasn't easy either. Takes 4 hours to download each podcast with dial-up. Used the connection at church, and each podcast takes 2 minutes. Plus, they download properly (as an mp3) so I can drop it right into the sd card and it all works great.

Listening to the Monsanto talk right now. Knew most of it, but the stuff I didn't know is pretty scary <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
