Hello, i have a 95 LS monty and plan on doing a timing belt change along with water pump. I was looking to guy the parts myself and then have a mechanic whom i trust do the work. Where is the best place to buy such parts? There are some on ebay, one which includes water pump, belt and accesories for about 91 bucks. Is that i decent deal? Any brands to avoid? Thanks

I like Gates belts. Make sure you get the idler pulleys, too. Since the job is a pita, I'd spend the bucks for oem.

How many miles a year? This is a 60k service item. If miles are avg, that's at least five years. Don't squander a few bucks. Dealer for all OEM should be ~$400, IIRC.
How much will the mechanic cost to do it a second time...?

Try Rockville Mitsubishi , MD , and Korum Mitsubishi, Seatlle for discount OME pulleys , etc. I get the E- address mixed up so I give the buiness names to google. Ive had really good luck with both these internet dealers. All Mitsu rubber stuff is superior to any , esp. your main crank seal you'll want to replace at the same time.

Thanks for the feedback, i emailed mitsubishiparts.net for a price quote for timing belt, tensioner, and water pump and they said it was about 270 in parts. He recommended I also get a serpentine belt and tensioner which brought the cost to 365 or so. The link from ebay was a lot cheaper, do you think these types are ok? I found this link, since i have thr 3.0 engine not the 3.5. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1995...ategoryZ33625QQihZ013QQitemZ230297655571

That is the belt for the 3.0 24 valve used in 95 and 96. This is a no valve clearance engine, I would'n't use anything cheap and probably made in China. It's cheaper in the long run to use good parts.

So, you're saying the parts in the above mentioned ebay link are not good? I understand the logic of not using crap parts I'm just not "in the know" as far as what is good and where the best place is to get the stuff. Also, anyone know he typical hours required to do a timing belt/water pump job, well at least according to mechanics? Thanks

Dealer stuff is best in my experience.
Also you'll get the right o ring for the water pump. Mine (aftermarket) came with the wrong o-ring and not having a 2nd car or access to the parts store had to re-use my old o-ring w/ high temp RTV. It started leaking soon after.
It's a complete R&R to fix it (timing belt, everything have to come back off).
Time is 6-12 hours figuring you haven't done it before and will be extra anal like I was about keeping bolts/fasteners with the parts that they fastened then you'll torque everything to spec.
I'm sure a competent mechanic can get it down to 3-4 hrs. IIRC it officially books for 6 or maybe it was 8 hrs. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />
