Read the page and the link there, 2" stainless steel exhaust from the cat back plus a header.

Need a Spot
Just had a new system installed. Stock header, 2" to the new cat. 2.25" to the new Flowmaster Delta 50 and 2.25" to the back. All stock routing. Sounds good without being too loud or "ricey." Wanted it to hint at "not stock" without trying to be a big block. I think I accomplished that.

Roll Me Over
If you don't live in the "Rust Belt", and don't want to spend a lot of money on high end muffler, the Raptor Turbo from Kragen's is cheap(under $24). I run one under both my mod'd 3.0 and stock 22re, and it has a nice mellow throaty sound behind each engine, more so behind the 6cyl. What I like about the muffler is that it is quiet on the trail, and only really here it when in the throttle.

Body Damage is Cool
For some reason I wanted to go with a round muffler like the factory.

I bought a mill finish 304 stainless Magnaflow XL Turbo muffler, round body style, with offset 2.25" inlet/outlet pipes from an ebay seller for about $68.00. From another ebayer I bought a 2.25" Goerlich universal catalytic converter for $37.95. I used mandrel bends and tubing, from Summit Racing, to keep the pipe diameters consistent, but since I was a little leery of trying to weld stainless without more practice I used aluminized steel tube. I used clamps as part of my hangers. I welded the hanger rods to the clamps not the tubing or the muffler. Clamps at the tube connections will be replaced with welds later when I get the final configuration settled. I also had to fabricate a new hanger by the catalytic converter because the old junk was too corroded. I was able to salvage my old O2 sensor mount. There was plenty of good steel left in it but I had to drill out the old studs and re-tap the hole for the new ones.

I figure if I like the results I'll invest in the more costly stainless bends and straight tubing and use what I made so far as a pattern for the new work. So far it performs great. It revs more freely at higher rpms and has noticeably more power. Of course my old cat was probably 25% plugged, and from the cat back I was running NAPA replacement exhaust parts made with 1-3/4" (1.75") tubing <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />-- Matt

muffler 68.00
cat 38.00
tubing and bends 64.00
flanges $14.00
clamps $8.60
3/8 rod for hangers $7.00
O2 sensor flange (salvaged/repaired)
O2 sensor gasket $7.49
8mm studs for O2 mount $2.00
2.25" flange gasket $2.95
nuts & bolts $2.39
hanger rubbers (salvaged)
misc welding consumables

I went pretty cheap on mine, I have the original header to cat, new cat, 2 inch to the muffler, and then 2 1/4 from there out. I just bought the standard oem style replacement muffler, but honestly it sounds pretty good. It isn't very loud but has a smooth low note to it. I don't think the muffler will affect anything other than the initial sound, the larger outlet pipe will give you a nice echo type addition (v6 sorta sound) and the larger diameter definitely helped widen the power band on my engine.
