Need a Spot
I've got a V6, A/T 89 Raider and I think the starter is going bad. I've had it since April of this year. Over the past months it would periodically fail to start. I've read about the switch in the shifter area, so I would move the gear shifter and it would eventually start. Yesterday it seemed to get worse so I took the console apart trying to adjust the switch. Well I don't think it's the switch after all. I seem to have the problem when she gets hot after driving around town. I finally tapped on the starter with a hammer and she would start. How much should I pay for a new starter? and which ones are the most reliable? Thanks.

first, welcome to the wire.
second, you shouldotta add your montys info to your sig.
third, getting a click/click when you hit the key?
if so, its one of two things. either a bad solinoid or a bad power connection. clean your connection (using a baking soda/water solution and a old toothbrush works great). i would think that if its not wanting to start when warm and if you are getting that click/click when you hit the key, that it is your solinoid and you need to replace the unit. but make sure your clean all your connections prior to sourcing a new unit, that very well may be your problem.
if your getting a whole lot of nothing when you hit the key, its your connections... or something much, much worse .

How much do you pay for a new starter????

That depends on where u get it of course.

I would say around $100 is average.Maybe as high as $150 for a Brand new one?

I am not sure if they can be rebuilt. If so then i would recommend a Rebuild on the Original unit.

A junkyard replacement might be a cheap alternative for $50 or so at Pick-n-pull. I like to wait for the 1/2 off sale but you may need it sooner

Good Luck either way
