I'm thinking about putting some of those hocky pucks under the coil springs on my "new to me" TJ Wrangler...
I know nothing at all about this.. Would it be an Ok thing to do for a simple short lift?
The ride is sporting 30X9.5X15's. I'm thinking about either 31X10.5 or maybe 245X75X16 to put on there. My reasoning is the few options I have in the factory size tire.
All advice will at least be read and considered.

honestly I wouldn't do it. i never have been a fan of or felt secure with those lifts. As for the tire fitment the 30 9.50 should fit without any problems i think maybe you can get the 31 10.50 under there as well. But if you still want a lift kit i will check craigslist up here i am sure i seen a few of the good ones up for sell for a good price.

I forgot to ask the oter day on the other post but do you have the dana 44 under the rear,i did notice it was a sahara.I see alot of tj's come into work with no lift and the factory size being 30.9.50

out of all the jeeps in this town the d**n gremlin had to invade mine

I've done so much, with so little for so long i can practicly do anything with nothing

Cuervo the 30X9.5 is the stock tire size for my year Sahara. The guys I spoke with over at the local HotRod Jeep place told me the only difference in the Sahara and the Rubicon was a taller spring which gives 1-1/2 more inches of lift and longer shocks. Thay have assured me all the other suspension parts are the same.
They are talking bout 2" hocky pucks giving bout the same look/lift as the Rubicon comes with. The guys all swear by the hocky pucks..
I am NOT argueing FOR the hocky pucks! I am just trying to learn about what it is I have here.
Then I find a guy on Craigslist that has genuine Rubicon springs/shocks with extreme low milage for sale for $200.

Oh man! This morning I'm hacking up huge green chunks out of my lungs...but I AM feeling much better. I AM going to do some bumper welding today no matter what.

The burn off from that welding should make those chunks an even prettier green! I've got the pucks and they do fine. Gets you a bit of lift for cheap, hence "budget boost". Obviously doesn't increase articulation like a real spring lift, but if that's not what you need it for the pucks do fine. And I thought I'd never see the day you'd want to up the tire size from stock...Look out next you'll be looking at 35's and some 4.56 or deeper gears!

The budget boosts do alright. Installed a set on my buddy's Jeep and he has had no problem for about a year now.

But, if you can get those Rubi springs for $200, it would be worth spending the extra $100 on those instead.

The Rubi springs are GONE! Question bout shocks.. I want SOFT ride as the old bones complain bout hard ride.. Also the trail I'll be using is an easy ride all by itself.. eBay has these listed with their kits. I'm sure they are also available locally.

Rubicon Express Twin Tube Shocks
Skyjacker Hydro Shocks
Doetsch Tech 3000 Series
Trailmaster SSV shocks

Which of these should I be going for..OR should I be looking elsewhere for my needs?

Jim, you might want to consider a set of adjustable shocks. They cost more up front, but they give you the ability to change the firmness by rotating a knob, and not by having to go out and buy a different set of shocks. The Rancho 9000 series are popular around here.

Im running the 2" Budget Boost (hockey pucks if you will..)

Im sitting on 32" tires (32x11.50) and have no problems at all, even at full steering lock. Without the pucks, I was running 31x10.50's...same situation, no rubbing at full lock. In fact, Id even believe you might be able to shoehorn 33's under there with just the 2" bb, but youd kill all articulation and would probably rub when you turned...but I think they'd fit under there..

a dang shame i don't live closer Jim, I would have been more than glad to have come to help with the bumper.I know what a bear those things can be.

Back shortly after 9/11 I still lived in VA and was working for a masonry company. One of our jobs was doing the block and brick work for the police dept. that was getting more security .when they decided to move the boiler room there was alot of pipe they was throwing out so i got permission from the town via the cheif of police to take it.

out of all that pipe my neighbors father and i made 4 trucks a set of pipe bumpers.we are all very accomplished welders and we had enough people to lift and hold in place while the 2 smaller guys(the neighbors sons/my closest friends) stuck in the bolts and tightened them. even with the three of us holding the bumpers they was heavy. We spared nothing as far as strength or weight.we spent alot of time in the mountains where heavy brush and branches could wreak havock on a grill and headlights. There was also the everyday driving where deer running out in front of you was a normal thing. This was also shortly after i got my truck back together after tearing it apart to rebuild/paint it. alot of new body parts,a second fuel tank and a cleaned and painted with hammerite frame and under the bed and cab. I was looking at lift kits and decided to get a stiffer taller lift than i wanted do to the added weight would lower it a bit and soften the ride.

that should be something that you keep in mind as well Jim,if it isn't already there. the added weight will lower your jeep a bit and soften the ride, maybe to soft. so you may need a bit more added lift and stiffer shocks to get the lift you want. someone does make an adjustable spring mount that you can add a little more lift by just installing it. [img][image]http://i33.photobucket.com/albums/d60/cuervo25/p18382.jpg[/img][/image]

they are about 230 bucks a pair but will add 1 inch without adujtment. now that your a jeeper again BJ quadratec, and 4wd hardware are wonderful catalogs to have on hand.
