Do I take the ever sardonic rolleyes to mean you don't like bright lighting on a vehicle? Or does the thread title itself offend your delicate sensibilities?

The thread title. What does it mean, for us not so educated?

I'm really happy with my 100W hi-beams in the Cibie' lamps I'm running. At least I haven't hit any deer on the twisty-windies near me.

i have been thinking about upgrading the lights on my raider to Halogen with 55/100 w bulbs.

I am probably going to get Hella's as they are good product.

[Linked Image]

I think those lights you put in are illegal here in cali except for off-road use.

I know the Hella's are illegal

High intensity discharge lights for the win.

IE, High intensity discharge lights > halogen sealed beam OE jobs.

I ran the Hellas pictured in my Nissan hardbody 4x4, later sold them at a garage sale after returning the stock Wagners. I thought the mid ground did not get enough light in the low position and insufficient throw/distance in the hi position. I tried various bulb combinations with no better effect. If you can get the Euro-spec Hellas for LHD traffic, the reflector and Freznels on the lens are different and are a good product...I generally shy away from DOT approved lighting for my headlights. I like to see!!

I'd be a bit worried about the legality. Other than that, I think it's a cool mod!

Oh, and FTW can mean F*ck The World or For The Win.

Most commonly For the win in forum parlance in my experience. YMMV.

It's a wonderful mod for the money, considering the relatively lost cost vs output and no mounting of exterior light housings, superfluous wiring and switches, et al.

The legality is not in question here, as I'm a police officer of going on five years and enforce this stuff for a living.

The light in the picture is for reference only.
The newer Hella sealed beam replacements are much better design.
Go to hellausa.com to see the light patterns as compared to OE.

I would like to install a HID system but i do not want a bunch of tickets from over zealous Police Occifers. The Cops have nothing to do but hassle people for things like that around here.
it would be like painting " COPS SUCK " on the side of my vehicle.
At least with the Hellas i can "appear" to be OEM but have the nice Pattern with Extra Visibility.
Kudos to you and your HID's. Maybe someday i Will be able to Skate by in Cali!

Are these XENON HID light systems street legal?
Every country and jurisdiction has its own rules and regulations governing the use of automotive lighting. XENON H.I.D. lighting systems that are supplied with the vehicles from the factory are DOT / E approved. The same OEM manufacturers that supply all the major car companies of the world also make our kits. NO XENON H.I.D. lighting system available from any source is DOT / E approved if installed outside of the factory. These kits are not street legal for use on public roads as they are. As a result, we officially endorse the kit for exhibition and off-road use and will only sell the kit to be used for these purposes. We are not responsible for customers who violate the terms of sale in which they will assume all responsibilities for any unauthorized or unintended use other than exhibition or off-road use.

I sell and install aftermarket lighting on a daily basis by the way

I was born and raised in Kommiefornia. I know all about the draconian carb standards push by legislature there. I can assure you the cops have way more to do than enforce equipment on cars. The guys stopping folks for illegal lights are either:

A) Part of the traffic unit, IE assigned to bother people for illegal *****.

B) On a task force for street racing and nailing anything with obvious "modz".

C) Looking for PC to stop you cause your a dirtbag.

I appreciate coolbubs faq disclaimer but I know Colorado's revised statutes just about by heart when it comes to traffic. There are no carb standards here. Hell, the only emmissions requirements are in the Denver metro area. Where my cars are registered (Larimer County), I don't even need a smog test.

After reading what you say, I just lost that much more respect for the Law Enforcement System (assuming you guys are just doing your jobs)

But FWIW, (AFTHGAF) Who makes the determination that you're a dirtbag? You're saying police are assigned to look for reasons to pull people over? (well I guess I already knew that) FTL!!!

Back on topic, I'd like to see the longevity of those components too.. it seems like a good cheap mod for the money, Kudos for that.

Don't headlights have to be DOT approved in order to use them for onroad use?
