The guys stopping folks for illegal lights are either:

A) Part of the traffic unit, IE assigned to bother people for illegal *****.

B) On a task force for street racing and nailing anything with obvious "modz".

C) Looking for PC to stop you cause your a dirtbag. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

After reading what you say, I just lost that much more respect for the Law Enforcement System (assuming you guys are just doing your jobs)

But FWIW, (AFTHGAF) Who makes the determination that you're a dirtbag? You're saying police are assigned to look for reasons to pull people over? (well I guess I already knew that) FTL!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif" alt="" />

Well they do if you look suspicious. That's just common sense if you ask me. Maybe not right in some views but I can still appreciate them doing it.

Also, WTH does AFTHGAF mean? Sorry no time to look it up on UrbanDictionary.com

Back on topic, I'd like to see the longevity of those components too.. it seems like a good cheap mod for the money, Kudos for that. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Very true. I would mod mine if they are.

Don't headlights have to be DOT approved in order to use them for onroad use?

Good question and I'm unclear of this for CA myself.

I'm guessing your lack of respect for law enforcement comes from your lack of understanding. That is the source for most malcontents out there. It's a job. It has to be done. It's done fairly and professionally. We don't decide who a "dirtbag" is. They present themselves rather clearly when you deal with them everyday. It woul take more than derailing my HID thread to explain it but I'm happy to try I suppose.

DOT approval is up to the individual state to enforce. Colorado has no provision making HIDs illegal. The requirements for vehicle lighting is that no more than four be on at once, IE low beams and fogs/ low beams and KC lights, etc. They must be visible for 500 feet to the front and must be above a certain height and below a certain height. White/amber lighting to the front and rear amber to the rear only. Red and Blue for police fire ems only.

Those are the lighting requirements as provisioned in title 42 of the Colorado Revised Statutes.

http://www.michie.com/colorado/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=

42-4-204. When lighted lamps are required.
42-4-205. Head lamps on motor vehicles.
42-4-206. Tail lamps and reflectors.
42-4-207. Clearance and identification.
42-4-208. Stop lamps and turn signals.
42-4-209. Lamp or flag on projecting load.
42-4-210. Lamps on parked vehicles.
42-4-211. Lamps on farm equipment and other vehicles and equipment.
42-4-212. Spot lamps and auxiliary lamps.
42-4-213. Audible and visual signals on emergency vehicles.
42-4-214. Visual signals on service vehicles.
42-4-215. Signal lamps and devices - additional lighting equipment.
42-4-215.5. Signal lamps and devices - street rod vehicles and custom motor vehicles.
42-4-216. Multiple-beam road lights.
42-4-217. Use of multiple-beam lights.
42-4-218. Single-beam road-lighting equipment.
42-4-219. Number of lamps permitted.

Common sense is what police work is based on. You obviously understand. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

HIDs must be CARB legal in CA. I'd recommend a google session on CARB standards to understand them. They are a PITA.

To both of you, thanks for the Kudos. I think it's money well spent.

Basically, If I have them aimed low enough not to blind everyone, and they are THEE option for low beam, they are legal.

[DISCLAIMER] I am not a cop in CA. This is the law as it pertains in the State of Colorado. I was also a police officer in TX and would be happy to explain the relevant law there as well. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Now that made me laugh so hard.

I look very nice and respectable.

But back in the day; I wore a black leather jacket and had Jet-Black hair down to my ass.

The Police would take one look at me back then and it was IMMEDIATE STRIP SEARCH <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

I am glad those days are over.

the Police do not look twice at me anymore. I am no one.

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Thanx for the info! I have added this to my limited memory bank!

And awesome job on the Lights! ( I almost forgot to compliment your fine work )

FTW = For the win, or For Teh Win (The being intentionally misspelled)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_slang

Originated in First person shooters where the person who "captured the flag", or completed the mission would type something like ..........

"LANDRAIDER FOR TEH WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111" (with the 1's being put there on purpose, OR put there because you are pumped on adrenaline that your fine motor skills are being impacted.

THIS ALL BEING SAID.......
These are the rules

Specifically "If you really want an informed and well-thought answer to your question, PLEASE attempt to follow the conventions of spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure. We do not speak in #'s and symbols here, so no L337speak please. To make a reader wade through a full paragraph with no punctuation and frequent spelling errors is taking their help for granted. "

In a case like this, I think it's perfectly acceptable because

#1 the poster is educating all of us on a subject
#2 it's certainly not excessive leetspeak
#3 it's a well thought out post with good information written in a manner that is easy to read.

Good post CoChese. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

Not true, I also find it annoying. People are just to lazy to type out what they mean. I often wonder what else they shortcut in life.
