BTW Temple,

Good call checking the temp of the rotors: 99% of the population (and 65% of mechanics) would never have thought to check it.

A guy came into our shop once complaining of smoke from the driver's front. After making sure that the pads weren't actively on fire, we clocked an over 300* temp difference from left to right. He didn't want to wait for us to get the parts because he had to go pick up his kid, so he drove out the same way he came in.

Never heard what happened, but a Darwin prize may be in order.

Thank you guys for all the help this weekend i threw in a steering stabilizer (that i love) and decided to figet with the calipers. i cleaned them up sprade some lube/cleaner on the pistons compressed them and re-bled them and now everything seems a bit better........

1. The oil wa tainted with crudd
2. possibly not bled right (never use that mechanic again)
3. Res. was nasty bad!!

Flushed the system and bled them the way you all recommended and raider Raids alot better

Thank you all.

-new problem is oil pressure gauge. i posted a seperate thread for that so please if you know anything about that or atleast a mechanical one i could replace it with let me know.

Body Damage is Cool
Another issue - if you still feel that your brakes are not performing as well as they should, look at what type of brake pads were installed. There's a world of difference between cheap generic brake pads & quality high-performance brake pads. I've had good experience with the EBC pads for trucks/SUVs on my 95 SR, but there may be other good brands out there.

Keep in mind that brake pads are a trade off between stopping power & pad life, with dust & noise issues closely related. Towards one extreme is the high performance brake pad which is a relatively soft compound & can stop amazingly well, but won't last more than 10K miles on the street and will likely be noisy & dusty. The other extreme is the cheap pads installed by many "lifetime guaranteed brakes" shops, which are a very hard compound & designed to last as long as possible with braking performance being secondary to longevity. The average off-the-shelf parts store brake pads tend to be compounded more towards the long-life side of the balance, and will generally stop an average vehicle acceptably, but are not the ticket if you are looking to have above-average stopping power.
