Wondering if anybody has a nice clever spot/setup for mounting a CB unit in the cab. I just got a cheapy $40 box, standard size w/ cord mic etc. I was looking at the bracket that holds the rearview mirror in, considering making a plate and bracket to come off of those holes... but that dosn't look real substantial for holding alot of weight.

My last 2 trucks (a 93 runner and 92 truck) I removed the ashtray and bracket and mounted my cb's there. It was out of the way and fit nicely. It has to be a smaller radio to fit though. Last one was a cheaper $40 radio from Wal-Mart. I did have to make up my own bracket however, because the one that comes with the radio wouldn't fit with the big knobs on the sides.................

Here is how I mounted mine when I first got my truck. It is a piece of .120 aluminum plate that I bent to the contour of the roof and it is mounted with the same screws as the mirror. I glued some gray carpet on it to match the headliner. I also spaced the CB mount down with a piece of finished Oak that is 1 x 1. Worked great and was very solid. ![[Linked Image]](http://pics.montypics.com/oops/2005-07-07/1120800810_cb.jpg)

Thanks David, that's just about what I was thinking. Now I'm windering... as long as I'm taking that mirror off, is there an upgraded version, or a cool way to add map lights, or even a nice aftermarket bolt-on unit w/ built in accesories (like lights) that might replace it?

I used to have my CB mounted like this: As I got older, though, I couldn't lean back far enough to read the display. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" /> Also, the mic and cord seemed like they were always in the way. Also, I like having the sunroof off whenever possible, and this setup precluded that. I ended up putting this radio (a Cobra 25) in my two rig, and took the tow rig's Uniden 520 and mounting it in the dash where the switches are in this photo (just above the CD player). I attached the mic mount to the side of the plastic hump cover, right in front of the driver's seat. I love this setup. Mark

I have mine mounted to the glove box. ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v33/Snowtoy/Glv_Bx_Mounted_CB.jpg) ![[Linked Image]](http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v33/Snowtoy/Glv_Bx_Cb_Mount.jpg) I used a 2"x6"x1/8" piece of aluminum inside the glove box as backing to reinforce the mounting surface. Over the last 18yrs I have had two mounted there, and there has been no warping of the glove box from the extra weight. The 3rd gens have more leg room, but I have mounted CB's the same way in both 1st and 2nd gens, and you only loose leg room w/the large CB units. In my other truck the antenna was a little short(to cheap to buy a new one), so I mounted it to the tranny tunnel. It is out of harms way, but I plan to go with a better unit, i.e., one w/greater range/functions, when I do it will be mounted to the glove box as well.
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed

It's not the full size radio but.... [img][image] http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e136/trdsr5/SR5console.jpg[/img][/image] used bracket that came with CB, just upside down and screwed it to side of shift console. Had to remove little cubby pocket that sat below ashtray.
