I used a 2"x6"x1/8" piece of aluminum inside the glove box as backing to reinforce the mounting surface. Over the last 18yrs I have had two mounted there, and there has been no warping of the glove box from the extra weight.

The 3rd gens have more leg room, but I have mounted CB's the same way in both 1st and 2nd gens, and you only loose leg room w/the large CB units.

In my other truck the antenna was a little short(to cheap to buy a new one), so I mounted it to the tranny tunnel. It is out of harms way, but I plan to go with a better unit, i.e., one w/greater range/functions, when I do it will be mounted to the glove box as well.

More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else.
