Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hey all,

Nice place you got here! Just wanted to introduce myself and my truck. I bought the truck about 2 months ago, it's got some rot, but it drives nice and was incredibly cheap. It has a few issues, but the big ones will be sorted when I can find a reputable shop around here that has worked on one of these before. Namely the front crank seal is leaking pretty well, and the brakes barely stop the truck while cold. Anyways, here are some pictures:

It was a hunting/fishing truck before I had it, so the inside was disgusting. I've spent hours cleaning it up, and I'm pretty happy with how it's lookin. I can take more pictures if anyone cares, but if it's not obvious from the pictures this trucks anything but a beauty queen It has a home made ladder/roofrack, a body lift, some big(ger) tires and a dual exhaust. My plans are meager:

-Clean up, and undercoat/por15 whatever metal I can salvage

-Get some nicer tires (probably 32's)

-Change out all fluids (after stopping all leaks )

-drive it like nobody's business.

Welcome!

Nice rig. What year? Which engine?

Is it an LS? LS is the upgraded trim which should include a more plush velour interior, headlight washers, limited slip differential, and the wheels you have. Can't which yours is because you have the wheels but not the washers. Does it have an LSD?

Regardless welcome to the group.

While you replace the front seals, also have the timing belt (6 cyl) or chain (4 cyl) and related gears/pulleys replaced.

As for the rust/rot a bit of POR 15 will definitely do it good. If required, you can access the inside of those exterior body panels via the interior body panels. They should be easy enough to remove using the right tools.

It looks like it is a 89 or 90 v6 to me. This is based on the back seatbelts you can see in the side window and the v6 emblem on the front.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. It's an 89' 3.0 V6 auto. As for the trim level, I'm not too sure. I'll get some pictures of the interior up and maybe that will give us a little more of a clue. This thing is a serious bastard child so I wouldn't be surprised if the wheels we're put on later in life. I know that the back door and drivers door are not original, so who knows what else went on while that repair was being made.

Is there an easy way to tell if it has the LSD? All the running gear is covering in oil/muck so any badging probably wouldn't help. This weekend I'm going to try and pull the belly/skid plates and get them ready to be sandblasted by a neighbor. Also going to start cleaning some of the front end metal. I took it out for a ride yesterday and noticed two more issues; the wipers decided to stop working, and there's a pin hole in the top of the rad that shoots steam like a teapot when the trucks warmed up. Guess a new rad is in the cards too.

So what do you guys think I should use for cleaning off and prepping some of this metal for rust inhibitor? I was thinking a strong wire brush and some sort of lube to soften the surface.

Sometimes it will say there's one and to use LSD addititive on a sticker in the door frame.

check the following 3 sources for parts first...
the pay it forward thread on the top of this forum
www.car-part.com
www.msrecycling.com

They will have used items which will be ALOT cheaper than new parts.

POR-15: Paint On Rust = no prep work needed other than cleaning off loose stuff.

Body Damage is Cool
No headlight washers = no LSD.

Very nice looking truck though. You're a lucky man.

Welcome to the board.
