Moving the go pedal while cranking triggers accel fuel enrichment, which will help crank the engine if it's not getting cold start enrichment due to a bad ect sensor. You don't get much, but unless thetemps are really cold, it's usually enough to get it kinda started. I usually had to contine light pumping to keep it running until it was warmed up. 89 3.0.

Roll Me Over
in my situation, a couple of slow pumps on the coldest of mornings and shell fire right up... no need for pumping. one shes fired up she keeps on going without any need of further assistance at all. btw, after your statements i just gotta replace my ect if for anything to save that precious fuel.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
also tried the slow pump and even the continous pump the first few times the problem occured, it didnt help. so its possbly a different problem.

i'll try removing the fuel pump to test it this weekend hope its just as simple as replacing it.... but what baffles me is that whe its up and running, there "seems" to be no problem at all, runs fine and starts fine the whole day or two. but leave it in the cold for more than 2 days, them the same problem will appear.

ect ect... this sensor tells the ecu when to idle higher when its cold right? hmmm i might also need to check that.

as for the coil, i;ve never had problems with starting or driving whens its raining. i also thought that this could be at fault as this is still the original oem part that came with the truck back in 92! so i tested for spark, tested out ok after all.

pulling the fuel pump is nothing short of a pita, do yourself a favor and replace the ect first. if its not the culpruit, your out a couple minutes and bucks... unlike the pump. sure you can get to it through the access hatch, but you still gotta (i did, and have a couple times now) drop the tank a little bit so you can get it seated for the install. and unless you have the hands of a 12 yo girl... getting the hoses hooked back up to the water/vapor seperators is enough to piss my gma off <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />.

Body Damage is Cool
I had a monty which spent- still spending it's life in Florida- the few times I took up home in cold snowy weather it started like a champ- Even in 4 below Far. Mine had 230K on it. There is a temp sensor or something not allowing the timing to adjust for cold starting?
