If you're going to the expense of rewrapping anyway, take the next step and replace the cardboard with fiberglass.

Wow, there's cardboard behind that sexy grey doorpanel?

I've got my work cutout for me.

I need to look for a good upholstery shop.

My blue Montero has a blue interior. All the interiors in Gen I trucks I've ever seen were blue, tan/brown (variations of sun damage), and grey.

If I had my druthers, I'd want olive drab. [Linked Image]

I could definately see you in OD.

Body Damage is Cool
I've wanted black or grey leather in my truck since forever, but haven't wanted the expense of an uphostery stop or the cost of the leather.

One of these days...

I can wrap the door panels myself and it looks pretty easy.

Frank had his seats done in some pretty nice marine quality vinyl. Thay turned out nicely. Whoever he got to do it did a good job.

I like the idea of using fiberglass (or something else) instead of the particle hardboard that comes from the factory. Although, I must admit, at 22 years and counting, my panels aren't much the worse for wear. They've never been wet, though.

87 Montero, bought new, by me -
88/89 intercooled Starion Turbo engine-
with awesome audio.

Do they make sheet fiberglass or are you guys talking fabricate from scratch?

If you're worried about the particle board + water...
just paint them in a good oil based paint before you reupholster them. Heck, rustoleum right outa the can ought to do the trick.

Cheaper & easier than fabbing fiberglass panels IMHO.

Jason,

I replaced the vinyl-clad panels in the back of my Raider with perforated steel. I plan to do the door panels later. Therefore, I have a nice set of three panels for the rear, grey, at this time...if you care to discuss push-on ready parts??

I THINK sheet fiberglass is available, but making your own (wrap your original panel) allows you MUCH greater strength, and the ability to mold items into it (such as drink holders, storage bins, cubby holes, speaker boxes, or tool boxes), if you are so inclined.

My 87 black raider had a light gray interior
My 89 black raider had the blue interior (it was a nice combination)
My current 89 has the brown/cream combo. I'm not crazy about it at all.

The black Raider I had was equipped with a tan interior. All the other Montero/Raiders I've had have had grey.

I found that there are two grey colors, charcoal and light grey. There are three brownish colors, tan, cream, and brown. I've only seen a few blue interiors, but with no variations.

Russell, did you keep the tan interior?

Do you have pics?

I'm rethinking black since a Ferrari red exterior would look pretty nice with a tan interior in good shape.

I may end up sourcing a complete tan interior for this thing and have a new headliner done.

Jason, I sold the tan interior parts to Justice nearly 2 years ago. Check out the thread on the diesel Monty, red with tan interior, looks pretty good.

Too bad you sold it!

I saw that thread. That's more of the two tone. I really wanna see the lighter tan in some pics if anyone finds some!
