I just wanted a new long block for now to keep my truck going for a few years, till I have the extra bucks to build my old one up a little better than stock. I guess my real question was, where to get a good long block, and how did it work for other people here on the forum. Just alittle feed back. Thanks again. A new long block is going to set you back a pretty penny, and isn't needed if your current engine is in good running order. I understand the reasoning behind buying a new engine for the peace of mind, but it isn't worth it if your current engine is still in good working order. A compression/valve adjustment/recheck comp and you will have a good idea of the condition of the engine. You should be able to buy a used block and do a power build for less than a new engine will cost you. If you buy a new engine and then do a build-up of the old one, you are spending the twice the money, money that you wont recoup when you go to sell the new(by then used engine), money that could be better spent on upgrades to your truck like gears and tires, bumpers, winch, etc. I am not trying to talk you out of buying a new engine, it just doesn't seem like you need one at the moment. Contact enginebuilders and see what a head(w/oversized valves) and the rest of the engine parts will run(for bored cyls, and a full rebuild). I am figuring about $1k plus shop work for enlarging the cyls(should be under $300), and if your crank needs work figure about $250 more. At $1550, your still under the cost of new engine and about the price of a used one from most of the engine suppliers.

Has engnbldr started selling longblocks? Last I heard he wasn't selling complete engines...
Dave >>>*We still don't build completes very often. Tod will tackle one locally from time to time, I pretend to be retired myself just to get out of as much work as possible. The reason is simple. I discovered way back that most of the Toyota owners are pretty handy with tools. In fact, way up there percentage wise compared to others. Add in the little 22R/RE series is simple and tough as nails, most concerns are tuning or mysterious noises. So I decided to aim differently, work with that do it yourself market mainly. I have to say it's been fun because I very much enjoy trying to help folks, so I get email and phone questions all day every day. If we wanted to just make money, we would set up an assembly line and mass produce the critters. But we have been there and done some of that, Vegas way back and Chevies for example. Let's just say shipping complete engines is a genuine PIA. So we stick with items I can still pick up. I suppose I am wierd since I don't give a hoot much about money... *Well, there is that !#$%$#@! stock market that just ate half of our life savings.....*LOL**.. Oh, well....so far this business is still fun. As long as it is I will be around...otherwise? *...Fishing!....*EB
*Beats the he** outa me!....*LOL**...

It is going to be just about impossible to find a new 22re here in the states, the 22re was never produced stateside, so any available will be in Japan, not to mention the fact that the 22r block hasn't been sold new here in over 13yrs, and I am not sure when the motor was stopped as a production motor over seas. Why the desire to pay through the nose for a pristine 22re when you can build one using all new parts(except crank and block), for less than half of what you are going to pay for a new engine, if and when you can find an all new OEM 22re. If you have $5k trying to burn a whole in your pocket just buy an already built-up new engine from LCEngineering. Not really worth the money IMO, but to each his own.

For S & G's, I called these guys. Guy was a little dicy on where the block/head actually come from, all I could pin him down to was "China"... "oh yeah, but many of the small parts are made here in the US, like the chain and gears and stuff". Claimed they've been selling for 3 years w/o problems. Warranty is parts only, 1 year, and MUST be installed by certified mechanic (e.g. provide SAE #). W/ full upgraded metal gasket kit for $1550+ride.

Something for under $2000 that will last a few years till I do something else. It might just be what I'll get. I want to thank all of you here for the replys and ideas. I have a friend who has been working on foreign cars and trucks in his own business for 30 years, and he will put the motor in for me for free. I use to be able to do it, but I have had 9 shoulder surgreys. Again thanks to all here.

Since there is nothing wrong with your current engine, you will be throwing away $2k on one of those ebay engines. $2k will buy you a used block, and new head w/all new internals from enginebuilder, and have enough left over to redo the exhaust. Enginebuilder New Street RV Head The rest of what you need
