My parts cluster source fell through on eBay. The buzz is unbearable so I'm going outside to take a whack at lubing the cable. So I should ONLY lube from the tranny side?

I can't lube from the speedo side? And Tri-Flo won't work? I have some white lithium grease handy too...

If this doesn't work and it blows up, I'll be needing to replace the tach AND speedo. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Well, that didn't take long. I even ran to the store and got cat food to test it out. Buzz is gone. The real test will be tonight when there is 5-10 inches of snow and its cold as fleck.

Thanks braintrust!

Ghost, I may end up sending a tach to you one of these days!

the tachometer is unrepairable....i could bench test it for you and if it is bad then i throw it in trash can!

Check the back of tach for Positive 12 volts , good ground and signal form distibutor ( flashing 12 volts).

If your inputs are good: then get a junkyard replacement!

Cochese, what did you end up doing that worked? Was it lithium grease from the transmission side of the cable?

Let me know. My speedo was getting pretty loud this morning and I would hate to break something without trying to fix it first.

just unscrew the cable and housing at the trans and pull the cable out...use any decent grease but not too thick and grease up cable....either it will fix the problem or your speedo is shot!
