My PTR 91 is also black, and also .308, and I pretty much love it. I remember Colonel Jeff Cooper calling the AR15 a "Poodle Popper". But I will also admit that in addition to being a much better deer harvester than a 5.56 gun, the PTR91 is a very good over-penetrator, particularly with full metal jacket.

My "bump in the night" gun is a 12 gauge properly loaded with buckshot (you use bird shot for birds), with a .40 pistol as backup. My wife's "bump in the night" gun is an AR15 with 55 grain soft points.

Remember, a hand gun is properly used to fight your way back to the rifle or shotgun you shouldn't have put down in the first place. If you know there is going to be trouble, bring a shotgun or semi-auto rifle.

.... And anything worth shooting is worth shooting twice or more.
