This morning I motored to my favoite used auto parts store with a bucket of tools. The Pick-N-Pull junk yard. I located an 87 4Runner with the hubs still on it. They came right off and it took less then 1/2 hour. No problem at all. Looked them over and no rust or visible ware of any kind I took them to the office and a girl there asked my what they were. Toyota hubs, I replied. She then did some computer stuff and said that will be 20 bucks. Score!!!! This is going to be way too easy.
Stopped at the dealer on the way home and picked up 4 new gaskets which were 13 bucks. Got home and cleaned them up and put on some new grease. Next the truck. I pulled off one wheel. Removed the cap from the hub which is steel. Removed the bolt which was the same as the 4Runner. Now I can't get the original hubs off. I had a propane torch on one of them for about an hour and kept spraying them with penetrating oil. I have not been able to remove even one of the tapered washers. Things are froze up good. I am done for today and letting the metal cool down. Later I will spray on more penetrating oil. There are also 2 threaded extraction holes in the hub. I put in bolts and have them fairly tight. I won't add any more torque for fear of pulling out the threads.
Condition where I live are tough. Salt on the roads for 7 - 8 months of the year. Last spring I replaced all the shocks. It took a cut off wheel to get the old shocks removed. When ever I reassemble things I always use anti-seize compound. Wish everyone used it.
Often I can get frozen parts removed after several heat and cold cycles. Any suggestions are greatly welcome.

I think the procedure is to use a heavy brass punch and a heavy hammer and with the nuts off or loose, put the punch on the end of a stud and start beating on the punch with the hammer until the washer pops loose. If you put anti-seize on the washers when you reassemble, they'll pop right off next time. I think I used a sledge hammer the first time I did it.

I don't have any brass pins or a brass hammer. I will get one tomorrow and give it a try. I am always hesitant to hit threaded studs with a hammer.

block of wood will do it. Just keep whacking it until they pop. Soak them real good first.

In combination with wood and some sort of heavy hitting device I'll leave a nut on the threads to help spare the threads. Also makes for a larger target when your on the last few studs.

Leave the nuts on the studs; those cone washers are about $3 ea if you lose them. I lay my brass drift on the hub body, and whang on that until it all pops loose.

PB blaster works, but what I really love is stuff called freeze off, it removes the most stubborn stuff!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I sprayed on more PB blaster. Then used a hard maple block to pound on. One by one the tapered washers started to pop out. Tomorrow I will install the hubs I got.
