Getting the Wheeling Fever
I have a '90 Trooper, non-abs, and I've located a possible LSD donor. I have found a '93 Trooper, a '98 Trooper and a Vehicross at a local junk yard with option code G80. All are abs equipped. Will any or all of these work in my non-abs '90 Trooper? And if any will fit, do I need to make any modifications to accomodate it?
Thanks,
Steve

The 93 will definitely work. Not because of an ABS issue, I'm not 100% sure about the other 2. The 93 is a different size and I'm not sure about the Vmobile. Same ratio as yours, right?

I am assuming that they are all 4.55 gears, as the other (4.77, I think) are very rare. One thing I noticed is that the Troopers with abs have some kind of sensor on the 3rd member at the top, while the Vehicross does not, but appears to have them at the wheels. I'd like to use the one from the Vehicross, as it has the least amount of mileage (and doesn't have the sensor on the 3rd member).

Isn't the VX a 4.30 ratio? Not sure...

I would think the third member from the 93 would work; the tone ring for the rear ABS shouldn't matter to you. Or just find one that came with 4 wheel ABS.

The sensor atop the third member is the abs sensor; no big deal. As BigSwede pointed out, the Vcross is a different ratio (4.30).

Just realize that you are talking about a 15 YO LSD. It may very well be worn out. The cost of rebuilding one will outweigh the cost of buying a new, aftermarket LSD.

Tha ABS/sensor should not be an issue as you have nothing to hook it up to... i.e. ABS computer or hydraulic control unit.

What you need to look at is the correct gear ratio and axle width as your front end.

Also, as mentioned... is it cheaper to buy a new one or go through the trouble of removing both axles from both vehicles only to find out that the "new" axle LSD is wore out... not to mention your time spent doing all this. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />

Thoughts to ponder. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The junkyard has rear ends for $50/car and $70/truck. Not bad. If the rebuild cost is under $200, then this would be a very good bargain. I was planning on putting a locker in the front, once I got the lsd straightened out in the rear. I believe this would greatly improve the ability of the truck in sand and mud, but maintain good street manners. One other question to those who know... should I put a locker in the front, how would this affect steering while in 4wd?

It will be more difficult turning when locked in the front, but if you have manual hubs, simply unlock one if you're making hard turns (anything more than about 1/2 turn of the steering wheel)... be advised it will also make your front end prone to sliding sideways on slippery surfaces if you're off camber.

Need a Spot
Where can I find the RPO code sticker on a '95 Rodeo?! There's one about 5mins from my house, but I can't find the RPO codes anywhere!
