it is a mitsu motor it is the 4d55(2.3) most likly out of a mighty max or D50

Looks to me like possibly a 4D56. IIRC, the D50/Mighty Max didn't come with the intercooler. Everything looks factory, so I'd guess they brought in a cut half and swapped everything over. I'm still kicking myself for not buying a factory diesel Monty back around '90. Had the speedo in KPH and jump seats behind the main rear seat. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> I don't think it had a turbo, though, because I remember thinking I could swap one from a Mighty Max.

OMG it is beautiful, I saw it and immediately pictured by 88 red with a diesel in it, WOW, I can just imagine <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" /> Hmmm, I like those tires too. I am saving all those pics in my "Projects" folder. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" /> Question: what 5spd tranny was behind that motor? the same KM145 as in the 2.6L? will it hold the extra torque of the diesel? Javy
88 red Montero with the Dakar Special Edition decals, 438,000 miles (As of 7/23/2012) some occational blue puffing but still strong and counting!!! I am going ppsshhh (turbo), Stay tuned =) ...

I'm pretty sure that Montero was listed on Craiglist last year with a bad motor. The owner wanted $2000 for it: nice body, but not at that price.
I was pretty sure someone bought it but at that price I could not figure out who or why.
Now I know.
