Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hi Gang, while on a quick run thru the woods, I learned the importance of turning off the radio to lower the antenna. Any good fix Ideas? Can the mast be replaced by itself? Anyone else had to do this fix or am I the only stoopid one?

Yes you can replace the mast itself.

Is it possible to add one of these to a Gen 1?

Adding would be easy. The trickier part might be the power and it it prewired. If not, you'll need to rig it up.

I've got a power antenna in mine. I was puzzled at how to install it at first, but after I just got into it, it took less than an hour to get done. Only thing I wish I had done was install a switch so I could control it, instead of having to turn the radio off.... but it's on my list of to-do's

I had a detailed step by step fix on how to do this, including pictures. I sent it to Scottie, but not sure if he still has it too. I'll have to dig deeper and locate the file if you are still interested? Not too hard to fix, just takes about an hour to fix. Just let me know or shoot me an e mail. I replaced my stock radio with an aftermarket one. If you want to keep the stock radio, you could wire it directly off the battery to a switch then to the antenna. If you want to do it right, put a relay in the circuit. As far as the actual install, just remove the inner fender liner and everything is right there. Hardest part was fishing the cable from behind the ECU....

Sorry to hijack but since you are talking about radios I wanted to inquire, do any of you have a spare factory radio knob that you are willing to sell?
On mine, the back part broke a little bit so I took it off to fix it with some JB weld but I put it in a place so secure that now I can't find it
