In my case, I snapped the hard line because I thought the manual said it had a flare nut on it. In reality, the flare nut was on the other end (towards the engine) of the rubber fuel line connected to the high pressure side. Loosen and remove that connection so the rubber hose can spin freely without flexing and then attach the hose to the high pressure line at the fuel pump. Then finally reconnect the rubber hose to the flare nut and tighten to specs. Flare wrenches in the appropriate sizes are a good investment!

that fuel line setup is typical mitsubishi. having the fixed end at the sending unit and the loose flare fitting at the other end of the rubber hose.
