Need a Spot
My 89' extended cab toyota 4x4 has a vibration/shaking that begins as vehicle starts to reach speed or so...if i get up to 55mph, then push in the clutch to coast, the vibration stops, so i'm guessing its not the tires...

Any thoughts?

u-joints?...something in the clutch?

Might be the rear drive shaft, it'll tip up under load, increasing the angle on the u-joint at the pinion flange. Pushing in the clutch lets it tip back down and possibly run smoother. Some tips on diagnosing the problem on the page below:

Does it have a two-piece rear D-shaft. If so it could be the center bearing has gone south.

Do the vibrations come through the bottom of your seat?
If they do, this is also a a sign that the u-joints or center bearing are going south. Definitely something you don't want to put of checking, since it will likely let go at highway speeds when the u-joints/center bearing fails. Before you have the current drive line rebuilt, call a couple of your local drive line shops and see what they will charge to make you a 1pc, it is usually cheaper to have a 1pc made then to rebuild the 2pc oem ones.
