Dennis,

The Sportage engine is rather tough, so that may have not completely damaged the engine enough to do a complete rebuild. I've had mine boil over a couple times on me this summer due to a radiator that was clogged.

Hopefully just a new head gasket will fix the problem.

I just picked the head up from the machine shop, they reserfaced it and fixed 2 leaky intake valves. I am going to put it all back together and hope for the best. If it still don't run I will pull it out and rebuild it, if it runs ok I will try to find a rebuildable engine and build the stroker for a later time.

Wish me luck, Dennis

That sucks, I know two other people that had them same problem about the same time, 1 Probe, and 1 Accord.

Good luck, Dennis

Not yet, I can't find any allignment dowells for the head. For some reason mine didn't have any when I took it apart. I also destroyed my new YJ radiator. I was cutting off the Jeep mounts to weld on the Kia mounts and the blade in my saw broke and the saw ran down the radiator and cut right through the middle. Yesterday was a very bad day to say the least. After that I just turned the garage light off and went in and watched TV. I will let you know when I get it back together and how it runs.

Dennis,

I understand the feeling. That's when I get a bigger hammer and go hit the tree next door. My neighbor is beginning to think his tree has a bug or something.

ouch. I had a day like that last week. Went to the hospital because of blood in my urine from some medication I was taking, checked out okay, my ass exploded on the way home, took care of that, hit a deer about 15 minutes later when I was almost home. The only good part was that I rented a car while I was fixing the head gasket on my Sportage so it was the rental car that got smashed by the deer instead of my Sportage. I gave them the $100 deductible and they get to mess with getting it repaired. Here's how my day ended up (2009 Camry).

I would much rather have the car problems than the health problems, I hope your ok now. My goal is to have it running tomorrow. I have to do a little wheelin Saturday and I would rather not get the Truck all muddy, Thats what the Kia's for. I have every thing to put it together except the throttle body gasket, I need to make a new one. I found a great place to mount the electric fan thermasat, I will take pics when I do it.
