Well, I got all back together (except for the electric fan) and it will not fire. It has fuel but no spark. I tested the coils with an ohm meter and they test out ok. so now I am just going back through everything. I did take pics of the themostat for the electirc fan. They are kind of fuzzy but you can still see.

There is a blocked off port next to the sending unit on the right side of the water neck. I drilled it out and taped it with a 3/8 pipe tap. A little pipe tape and thread it in.

When I get the fan finished I will post more pics.

I just did the same thing for a Harbor Freight Temp gauge.

Can't trust the stock one!! According to the stock one 220f is half way!!! 180f is just below half way. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
For $20.00 not a bad looking gauge with 5 or 7 different colors. I'm going to set it to red and forget it. Actually got all the Harbor freight gauges and a exhaust temp gauge off EBAY for when I get the turbo <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />
Going to install the rest of the gauges this weekend so I'll have pics then.
Had to install a new gas stove for my wife last weekend... got the stove AFTER Thanksgiving...
<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> but those Italians know how to make a pretty good unit!

ANYWAY, could it be the cam sensor?
Let us know what you find. If the sensor is bad, let me know..I have 2 spares.

I have gone through my Kia service manual and can't find the resistance for the cam sensor. That was the next thing on my list to check.

Thanks Dennis

I found a bad wire on the cam sensor and fixed it yesterday. I now have fuel, spark and I have tripple checked the timing belt and it still won't start. I did a compresion test cold and got 58, 60, 60, and 58. I think it just doesn't have enough compression to run. I have now turned my attention to the Probe my boy is giving me, he has been working hard in it while I have been working on the Kia and he said it should be done today. So the Kia will be parked intill spring and I will start collecting parts to do the rebuild.

Keep wheelin, I can't, I'm in a Probe GT <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />, wanna race <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />?

does it try and fire at all ? bet it is just a connector not plugged in all the way, check the sending units.

It has tried to start, it just won't kick over. I don't think I can count how many time I have been the the wireing, every is where I should be. I just have 1 more question. Could the coils be bad and still have good resistance? The resistance on both checks are right where my Kia manual says they should be. I am getting spark, maybe it not enough.

Have you checked the fuel pressure? I've seen pumps put out decent flow, but not be able to make enough pressure - and on fuel injected systems, adequate pressure is essential...

Fuel pump was new last year. It ran perfect and had good compresion before it over heated, now the compression is way low and It won't run. There is now way the overheating could have affected the fuel pump. I have even poored a little gas down the intake with no results.

Going to go 2.3? Doubt if your present motor would fire with that low of compression. I found some pistons that should work...they are Keith Black that are made with 6-19% silicon alloy (HyperEutectic) w/six expansion struts. They aren't forged but high performance. You can run tighter tolerances because they don't expand as much as forged. Think this spring I may make a 2.3 with this and 5.7" Chevy rods with a 2.2 crank. Only thing is, what flywheel to use....
Good luck on your project.
