There are two things needed to accomplish experience with your second map:

1. Step into the TARDIS and take a ride back some millenia when the eastern California seaboard existed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/zombie.gif" alt="" />

2. Drop all the nukes, see what happens. However, I think it'll be difficult to change the geology there from strike-slip and extensional faulting back to a subduction zone. There are significant high point to rectify to allow seawater back into the troughs of Death Valley and the like. Not to say I'm not willing to sacrifice SoCal for this experiment... <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" /> Your idea, not mine.
