With as many metal shavings that are shown, you would most definitely need a new/used hub and disc... and yes, there is a snap ring that goes on the end.

Its been awhile since I've had the entire hub assembly off... but I don't remember my hub bolt holes being open on the inside. Looks like the hub has been wallered out on the inner surface to the point the threads are exposed. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />
