I am pondering the work I am doing on my LWB and I am remembering how when I was in 4wd I could feel the front wheels being pushed more than going along at the same rate as the rear. I have swapped a 95 SR axle into the back, and I am wondering how much the gearing changed between the front and rear axles. I am going to pull my Starion front, and am thinking I should just swap the whole front drivetrain from an SR. But I am wondering how much will actually bolt in? Also, does ARB offer a locker in the Gen2? I am just looking at options, because my 89 is used in the snow and last year I took out a mailbox because it wouldn't stop pushing the front end all over the place...

My big question is, how much will swap over?

Thats not very scientific method you've got there.

Likely none. What are the ratio differences?
I run 4.636 rear, and 4.56 front, and there is no problem. My truck runs fine.

None without modifications that you are not willing to make.

Stop now.

I think a lot of it will bolt right in. But your treading new ground so you'll have to work out the bugs on your own. There was a guy in new zealand who did it so its "probably" possible. You will need the big diff out of the 3.5 gen 2 if you want to run an ARB. Or just keep what you have and run an ARB110 as it fits both.

The upper control arms bolt up. Not sure about the lower control arms, axle shaft length front diff mounts front drive shaft length etc..you'll have to figure it out and let us know.

As far as being "pushed around" thats probably your imagination, or you need to learn when to turn off the locker.

Who said I am not willing to modify something to work? I just don't have a need to a SAS at the moment.

I plan I doing so, just wanted to get some feedback on swapping the whole front end

I plan on selling my Starion front as a whole, so I want to grab that 3.5 diff.

I almost always leave the locker off until I need it, I am also concerned that it might be the mix of both the Starion front and the SR rear just being too different. Or its the binding of the LSD that has be thinking I'm getting pushed around.

I am saying that because it will take you weeks of work to swap an SR front end into your truck. I'm not saying it is impossible at all. Just not worth the effort #1, and from your other posts it does not look like you have the time, or money to put into this sort of "experimental" swap.

I'm not being negative, just realistic.

By all means, go ahead and try it!!! I'd love to see someone beef their truck up! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I got all the time in the world right now. And I think I found an SR in the yard I frequent. I need to check up on that. But yea, my Montero is a project as it sits so I figure might as well go for it.

ps. Sorry about that little flip out I did, just a combo of other posts I read and a few IMs finally got to me. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gif" alt="" />
